Most Indian states celebrate the Hanuman Jayanti as per the Hindu calendar mainly on the day of Chaitra Purnima (full moon day) which is the 15th day of Shukla Paksha (April-May). In year 2024, Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on April 23 to pay tribute to Lord Hanuman with fast, prayers, bhajans and Prasad.
States like Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh celebrate Hanuman Janmotsav during the Vaisakha month with the dark fortnight (April-May). Hanuman Jayanti is observed in the Tamil Nadu and Kerala calendars in the month of Margazhi. (December - January). Some communities celebrate Hanuman Jayanti a day before Diwali.

In Western India, fasting a day before Hanuman Jayanti is prevalent whereas in Northern India fasting on the day of Hanuman Jayanti is prominent.
On this day devotees visit Sree Hanuman temples to perform holy Puja with religious offerings. They recite the Bajrang Baan and Hanuman Chalisa. The temple Pujaris serve prasad such as coconuts, sweets, sacred ash (UDI), Ganga Jal, and flowers to devotees assembled for puja. Devotees seek blessings by applying red sindur from the Lord's foot to their foreheads. Sankat Mochan Temple in Varanasi and Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya are the places of great celebrations in North India.
